Returning with Earl Bamber Motorsport, Targett will drive in place of Pro-Am competitor Lachy Harburg, having previously worked with the Pro-Am driver in a coaching and engineering capacity.
Harburg contested the season opener at Phillip Island, but was absent from the next two events at Tailem Bend and Queensland Raceway.
“Lachy unfortunately can’t drive at the moment but still wanted to come up for the event so he said ‘why don’t we switch roles and you have another crack’,” Targett told Speedcafe.
“It was always planned for Lachy to race Townsville and have myself on the radio.”
Targett noted the fun nature of the partnership, dating back to racing state-level events at Queensland Raceway together.
“Lachy and I have done a few races together in Prod Sports at QR just as a bit of fun,” Targett added.

“I ended up engineering Lachy last year and we won a few races and had a few poles which was actually better than his famous zero win championship [in 2024].”
Targett enters the Townsville event having not raced a Porsche Cup car since last year’s Gold Coast 500, when he was one of several competitors involved in a multi-car incident in Race 1.
The young gun won the 2024 Sprint Challenge title having won 11 of 18 races, with two wins and a second place in that year’s Townsville visit.
Targett graduated to Carrera Cup in 2025, but a tough season culminated in missing the final round in Adelaide following the Gold Coast withdrawal.
Having been released from the Grove Racing junior pathway in the offseason, Target pivoted to GT racing, lining up with Mercedes-AMG squad Tigani Motorsport.
Targett currently leads the SRO GT Academy standings, with a drive in the 2027 24 Hours of Spa up for grabs.
